Tuesday 16th October – travel then walk – Woodland Trail, Leith Hill – sunny start then clouded over.

We haven’t been away in our little VW camper this month and we have away every month so far this year and with not much wind forecast Mag organised a visit down to Surrey to look after our lovely grandson, Arlo. With no wind l left the windsurfing gear in the garage but loaded the bikes, packed the van and set off at 12.15 and had a good trip down with no hold ups:) Being early we drove up into the woods at Leith Hill just short of our son in Ewhurst. Leaving Felixstowe in clear blue skies we arrived to cloud that looked close to rain! We walked up the hill to Leith Hill Tower a folly with fantastic 360-degree views still lovely despite the low cloud! We decided to do the Woodland Trail like we did the lst time we were here and headed down the steep steps taking care as they looked very slippery! At the bottom of the steps l stood on a small round twig and nearly fell and a man grapped my arm to help steady me and Mag told me it was the Eastenders actor who plays bad boy Nick Cotton, sadly a bit wasted on me as l have never watched it but it was a good talking point and l didn’t ask for selfie!! Across the road, the path continues around the bottom of the hill, past a large but run-down National Trust house to the rhododendron wood which was in full bloom on our last visit but not so impressive this time! Then up the hill back to the van for a welcome cuppa and biscuit. Relax and read before setting off to Sayers Croft to spend the night before looking after Arlo for the day tomorrow:)
